Tips for traveling with an eating disorder

We all know that there is a whole wide world full of new experiences waiting for us if we only want to explore it, but these trips or vacations expose us to different cultures and, as a result, diverse food, which is a challenge for those who struggle with eating habits at home or eating disorders.

The reality is that if you have an eating disorder and travel, the effects of the disorder can suddenly increase. But don't worry because there are ways to make it easier and easier to deal with. ↓

  1. Know your triggers before vacation.

  2. Pack snacks. - It's important to pack snacks that you love and don't feel bad about eating.

  3. Plan your meals in advance. - Traveling can be unpredictable, but you can plan meals and snacks ahead of time to ease anxiety and stress.

  4. Browse local restaurants and menus.

  5. Travel with a loved one you trust. – This person can help reduce your anxiety and help you stay on track in your eating disorder recovery.

  6. Develop a routine. - Establishing a routine while traveling can be helpful.

  7. Avoid restrictive diets while traveling.

  8. Realize that you are worth much more than the value you place on your body. It's not the only thing that defines you.” - Molly Tarlov

The important thing to remember is that when things get tough, take a moment to remember why you embarked on this journey and stay grounded because you've come too far to give up. Traveling can be a wonderful experience, but it can also be challenging. But with a little planning and preparation, traveling with an eating disorder can be much easier. So go forth and explore the world. You got this! ;)

Bon voyage. :)
