Do you remember the first time a stranger yelled something degrading at you?

Welcome back to Girls vs Tourism!

Today's topic will mainly be in the meaning of our slogan: ''Safer with knowledge'' because we believe that there is never too much knowledge, and that it is always better to be more informed than not enough. In different situations, it is easier to decide whether we have more knowledge and information about safe travel around the world, what can happen to us and what women must be prepared for. This sentence is very important to us because it accompanies us on every trip we have been on and will go on.

This can be said from experience because every city or country has so-called "catcallers". "Catcalling" or street harassment is defined as humiliating, rude and unwanted boos, sexual comments, screams or literally meowing sounds - it's certainly more than a passing sneer. This is more commonly known as street harassment and is something that far too many people, especially women, face.

We ourselves were victims of street harassment many times, especially during our trip to Rome, where we were called daily with various sexual comments and whistles. The most frightening one was when we passed a cafe and four older men said to us "Le ragazze giovani e sexy hanno dei bei seni", which means "The sexually attractive girls, have nice breasts". We were very shocked by this, as we used to walk past this cafe every day while on vacation in Rome. Fortunately for us, we did not see this man again.

For this, please take care of yourself, your friends on trips and at home, because unfortunately this happens every day.

Till next time. :)
